Israel Strikes Damascus Amid Ongoing Tensions in Syria

As the situation escalates, Israeli airstrikes on Damascus hit key government sites, intensifying regional tensions.

Israel carried out significant airstrikes against Damascus yesterday, targeting a compound linked to the Syrian defense ministry and an area adjacent to the presidential palace, according to reports from both the Israeli military and Syrian officials. This military action comes in the wake of recent violent confrontations in Sweida, the home ground of Syria's Druse community, which has been a focal point for Israeli concerns.

Israel has issued warnings of further military actions against Syrian government forces unless they agree to pull back from Sweida. Shortly following these airstrikes, Syrian authorities declared a cease-fire with local leaders, a move that appeared to result from diplomatic efforts, including intervention from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who sought to help stabilize the troubling situation.
