**Iran's Regime Allegedly Employs Criminal Gangs for Assassinations Abroad**

Recent court documents reveal Iran's ties to criminal networks for plotting attacks on dissidents and political rivals internationally.

Intelligence reports indicate an alarming increase in Iran's operations aimed at undermining critics abroad, raising serious geopolitical implications.

Iran's government has come under scrutiny following revelations that it may be contracting criminal gangs to carry out targeted assassinations and kidnappings of dissidents and political opponents residing abroad. Reports from Western intelligence agencies indicate that these operations have markedly escalated since 2022, with various figures—including former US President Donald Trump—allegedly being potential targets.

In the UK, law enforcement is currently investigating several Iranians arrested this month amid suspicions of planning a terrorist attack, reportedly aimed at the Israeli embassy in London. Court documents obtained by the BBC, including indictments from Turkey and the US, have disclosed how Iran's authorities purportedly engage criminal organizations to execute hits outside its borders, a strategy the Iranian government continues to deny.

A conspicuous figure mentioned in various documents is Naji Sharifi Zindashti, an Iranian crime lord infamous for his international drug smuggling network. He was implicated in the 2017 assassination of Saeed Karimian, the CEO of a Persian television channel targeting Iranian audiences. Iranian authorities had branded Karimian a danger to Islamic morals and orchestrated his sentencing in absentia three months prior to his murder.

Zindashti has a controversial legal history, having fled to Iran after being briefly detained in Turkey for his alleged role in Karimian's assassination. His connections to Iran’s intelligence services have led to speculation about whether he had been operating on their behalf all along. Investigative journalist Cengiz Erdinc expressed concerns regarding potential arrangements between organized crime and Iran's intelligence agencies.

Zindashti’s criminal history extends to other nefarious activities, including his involvement in the kidnapping of Habib Chaab, an Iranian opposition figure, who was later executed. His entanglements have led to a series of investigations suggesting that he maintains ties to Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards’ Quds Force, responsible for foreign operations.

Additionally, evidence presented in Minnesota courts has connected Zindashti to a plot to assassinate two Iranian defectors, thwarted by the FBI just before execution. Overall, intelligence suggests that Iran has been extending its reach by collaborating with organized crime, notably the Thieves-in-Law, to amplify its capabilities for conducting covert operations abroad.

The implications of these findings indicate a continued pattern of aggression by Iran, particularly following the assassination of Qasem Soleimani by US forces in 2020. Since then, Iranian hardliners have threatened retaliatory action against individuals associated with the attack, including both current and former political figures in the US.

In the UK, MI5 has flagged serious threats from Iranian-affiliated entities, with multiple arrests pinpointing individuals allegedly gathering intelligence for Iranian interests. Incidents involving attacks on Iranian dissidents in or near the UK only underscore the rising trend of such operations, raising alarm about Iranian influence and actions in Europe.

As global scrutiny of Iran's covert activities intensifies, law enforcement agencies are racing against time to dismantle these dangerous networks before further violent acts can occur. The ongoing investigation into Iran’s dubious alliances with organized crime posits a complex narrative of state-sponsored actions concealed under misleading layers.
