Warning Issued Over Vodka-Filled Celsius Energy Drink Cans

US FDA alerts consumers to check for vodka in specific energy drink cans after mix-up at packaging supplier.

The US Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning for consumers of Celsius energy drinks after some cans were mistakenly filled with vodka due to a packaging error.

In an unusual incident, the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) has alerted consumers to examine their Celsius energy drink cans for possible vodka contamination. The warning specifically pertains to the Astro Vibe Blue Razz edition of the beverage, which was affected by an error during the packaging process.

According to the USFDA, the mishap occurred when a supplier inadvertently sent empty Celsius cans to High Noon, a company known for its vodka seltzers. These cans were then filled with alcoholic content. High Noon is taking precautionary measures by recalling certain Beach Variety packs that came from the same production line.

Fortunately, the USFDA reports that there have been no reported illnesses or adverse effects linked to the contaminated products. The recall affects two specific production lots, details of which have been released on the USFDA's website. These products were distributed to retailers across several states, including Florida, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin, between July 21 and July 23.

For consumers, the impacted Celsius cans carry the retail code UPC 8 89392 00134 1 along with specific lot codes printed on the bottom of the cans. The USFDA has cautioned consumers to dispose of the affected Astro Vibe energy drink cans and refrain from consumption. However, it is important to note that other High Noon Beach Variety packs with different lot codes remain unaffected and are safe for consumption.
