FDA Issues Recall Warning: Energy Drink Cans Mistakenly Filled with Vodka

Consumers are advised to check their Celsius energy drink cans following a mix-up that led to some being filled with vodka instead of the intended beverage.

The USFDA has warned consumers to check Celsius energy drink cans after a packaging error led to some being filled with vodka. Affected products were shipped to several states alongside a recall of High Noon vodka seltzer packs. No adverse events have been reported.

In a surprising turn of events, the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) has issued a warning for consumers regarding Celsius energy drinks after it was discovered that some cans were inadvertently filled with vodka. The affected product is the Astro Vibe Blue Razz edition.

This mix-up occurred due to a packaging error at a supplier which accidentally sent empty Celsius cans to High Noon, a vodka seltzer company, leading to those cans being filled with alcoholic beverages. The recall not only concerns Celsius but also includes certain Beach Variety packs produced by High Noon that came from the same production line.

Fortunately, the FDA confirmed that no illnesses or adverse incidents related to these products have been reported as of yet. The recall specifically affects two production lots published on the USFDA's website, with products distributed to retailers in several states, including Florida, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin, between July 21 and July 23.

The specific High Noon packs that are under recall bear the retail code UPC 085000040065, with lot codes ranging from L CCC 17JL25 14:00 to L CCC 18JL25 03:00. As for the Celsius cans, consumers can identify them by the retail code UPC 8 89392 00134 1 and lot codes from L CCB 02JL25 2:55 to L CCB 02JL25 3:11, which are laser-printed on the bottoms of the cans.

In light of these findings, the FDA has urged consumers to dispose of the affected Celsius Astro Vibe energy drink cans and refrain from consuming their contents. The recall does not include High Noon Beach Variety packs with other lot codes, which remain safe for consumption.
