President's medical examination highlights cognitive fitness and physical well-being amid political scrutiny.
US President Donald Trump has received a clean bill of health from his White House doctor, Captain Sean Barbabella, who declared him in "excellent cognitive and physical health" after a recent medical check-up at a Bethesda, Maryland hospital. The assessment, which marked the first annual physical of Trump's second presidential term, included various tests to evaluate his overall health and confirm his capacity to fulfill his duties as Commander-in-Chief.
During the nearly five-hour evaluation at Walter Reed hospital, Trump's doctor reported that the president exhibits strong cardiac and pulmonary function, while also demonstrating robust neurological and physical performance. The memo released by the White House on Sunday emphasized his "active lifestyle" as a key contributor to his well-being.
Notably, the examination revealed that Trump has some "scarring on the right ear" resulting from a gunshot wound sustained during an assassination attempt last July. Despite this, Dr. Barbabella noted that Trump's health remains stable, and he is "fully fit" to execute presidential duties.
As part of his cognitive assessment, Trump scored a perfect 30 out of 30 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), commonly used to check for early signs of cognitive issues. The test includes tasks such as naming animals and drawing a clock. Furthermore, the president's health report highlighted minor issues such as sun damage and benign skin lesions, alongside a medication regimen for cholesterol management and cardiac prevention.
At 6 feet 2.5 inches tall and weighing 224 pounds, Trump's weight has decreased from 243 pounds since February 2019, indicating a shift towards a healthier lifestyle. This report marks the first public disclosure of Trump's health since being grazed by a bullet in July, an incident described as superficial by his former physician.
Previously, during his first term, Trump received mixed health assessments, including advice to lose weight and increase exercise. His ongoing campaign rhetoric has frequently aimed at highlighting the perceived health deficiencies of his rival, President Joe Biden, who, at 82, was older than Trump when he completed his presidency.
