The Israeli military says its air force has carried out its most powerful strike in Yemen in response to the Houthi movement's repeated drone and missile attacks on Israel.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that dozens of aircraft bombed targets associated with the Houthis' security and intelligence services in the capital, Sanaa.

The Houthi-run government's health ministry condemned what they termed Israel's brutal crime, alleging that civilian facilities and residential buildings were hit, resulting in eight fatalities.

This new chapter of violence comes shortly after 22 individuals were injured, with two in critical condition, due to a Houthi drone attack on the Israeli Red Sea resort of Eilat.

Since gaining control over north-western Yemen a decade ago, the Houthis have launched numerous attacks against Israel, particularly increasing their hostility in support of Palestine after the Gaza conflict intensified in October 2023.

Following the strike, health officials reported significant civilian casualties and ongoing search operations for those trapped under the debris of destroyed structures. Al-Masirah, the Houthi television, broadcast images of damage along with accusations of targeted assaults on civilian infrastructure.

Israeli officials have reaffirmed their commitment to responding decisively against the Houthi threats, declaring intent for continued military action in the region.
