Zakir Hussain, a beacon of Indian classical music and a celebrated tabla player, has passed away at the age of 73 due to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. His family confirmed the news from a hospital in San Francisco. Hussain, a four-time Grammy award recipient and the esteemed holder of the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honor, was the son of legendary tabla maestro Ustad Alla Rakha Khan. Showcasing prodigious talent, he performed his first concert at merely seven years of age.
