Tragic incidents lead the popular venue to halt festivities out of respect and for safety concerns.
Ibiza Rocks, a well-known hotel and music venue, has made the difficult decision to cancel its upcoming events following the tragic deaths of two British men on its premises. The first incident involved 19-year-old Gary Kelly, who died after falling from a balcony early Monday. The second, 26-year-old Evan Thomson from Aberdeen, passed away during a visit earlier this month. The venue expressed its "deep shock and devastation" over the incidents, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation and its commitment to the safety and wellbeing of its guests.
Spain's Civil Guard reported that Kelly's death appeared to be accidental, while the venue is cooperating with local authorities to ensure a thorough investigation. A spokesperson from the British Foreign Office stated they are assisting the family of the deceased in light of the incidents.
Tributes have poured in for Kelly from the ice hockey community, with his team, Dundee Stars, remembering him as a "hugely talented and charismatic individual." They highlighted the profound loss felt across the community, emphasizing that his future had been bright and that he would be greatly missed.
The venue, situated in San Antonio, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, having hosted numerous prominent artists, including Craig David and upcoming stars like Dizzee Rascal and Rudimental. Although there was a scheduled R&B music dance party for Sunday, Ibiza Rocks has not confirmed the total number of event cancellations but assured affected customers will be contacted via email.
