Small Plane Crash in San Diego Neighborhood Results in Tragedy

Authorities are reporting multiple fatalities following a small plane crash that occurred Thursday morning in a residential area of San Diego. The incident took place in the Murphy Canyon neighborhood, where the Cessna 550 aircraft struck several homes and caused significant damage. Assistant Fire Chief Dan Eddy confirmed that there were "more than one fatality" among those on board the aircraft, although identities of the deceased have yet to be released.

Witnesses described the moment of impact as a horrifying experience, with one local resident, Christopher Moore, recounting the loud bang that jolted him and his wife from sleep. They quickly grabbed their children and evacuated as they witnessed a car engulfed in flames just outside their home. Another resident reported hearing a "strange whistling wheezing noise" followed by a booming crash.

The fire resulting from the crash has led to the destruction of several homes and ignited vehicles in the vicinity. Fortunately, local authorities stated that no serious injuries were reported among residents, with only one person hospitalized and a couple of others treated on-site.

In response to the emergency, approximately 100 people from nearby homes were evacuated as emergency crews worked to manage the hazardous situation, which included large amounts of spilled jet fuel. Local police have announced that the surrounding area will remain closed for the remainder of the day to ensure safety as cleanup efforts continue.

The aircraft was reportedly en route to Montgomery Field, an airport located just six miles north of San Diego. The investigation into the cause of the crash is still ongoing, with authorities working diligently to ensure a thorough inquiry.
