Counterterror Police Launch Inquiry into Fire at Keir Starmer's Residence
Investigation follows small blaze at the Prime Minister's rented property in Kentish Town, with no injuries reported.
In the early hours of Monday, May 12, a fire broke out at a residential property owned by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, which he rents out to tenants in Kentish Town. The incident prompted immediate intervention from the London Fire Brigade and the Metropolitan Police, who reported to the scene around 01:35 hrs.
According to police statements, the blaze resulted in damage to the property’s entrance, but fortunately, there were no injuries. “The fire is being investigated and cordons remain in place while enquiries continue,” a spokesperson said, noting that due to the property's historical connections with a public figure, their Counter Terrorism Command is overseeing the case.
Starmer, who moved to the official prime ministerial residence at 10 Downing Street last year following the Labour Party's general election victory, has been leasing the four-bedroom house nearby. This property is located just four miles from Downing Street, which is well-protected and fortified.
London’s firefighters reported that they managed to bring the small fire under control within thirty minutes. Meanwhile, this incident has drawn public attention partly due to an earlier protest last year led by a group called Youth Demand outside Starmer's home, advocating for Britain to impose an arms embargo on Israel.
As inquiries into the cause of the fire remain ongoing, authorities continue to ensure the safety and security of the prime minister and his properties.
