Fatal Plane Crash Claims Two Lives in San Diego Neighborhood

At least two individuals lost their lives after a small aircraft crashed into a residential area in San Diego's Murphy Canyon neighborhood early Thursday morning. The Cessna 550 aircraft struck several homes, destroying one entirely and damaging ten others. Eight people on the ground sustained minor injuries; one required hospitalization while the others received on-site treatment, prompting evacuations of around 100 residents.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the plane's identity, stating that the Cessna can accommodate eight to ten occupants including the pilot. While officials have not yet released the names of the deceased or the passengers, eyewitness accounts describe the chaotic aftermath of the crash. Assistant Fire Department Chief Dan Eddy noted the extensive damage caused by the impact, stating, "There's plane everywhere," and detailing the debris scattered across the area.

Local resident Christopher Moore recounted the terrifying moments when he and his family heard the crash, seeing smoke and flames as they escaped their home. Another nearby resident reported hearing an unusual noise prior to the crash, followed by a strong shake in his house. The aircraft was reportedly en route to Montgomery Field airport, located six miles north of downtown San Diego at the time of the accident.
