In brief

According to PHIVOLCS, a 6‑minute eruption at 11:53 a.m. local time produced a dense ash plume that rose 3,000 m and drifted west–southwest, prompting a Level 3 alert and evacuation orders for people within 6 km. The move follows a new phase of magmatic activity and increases the risk of lava flows and pyroclastic density currents.

On Friday, October 30 2026, the Mayon Volcano in Albay province erupted at about 11:53 a.m., generating a 3,000‑meter ash plume that drifted west–southwest, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) officials said.

The eruption lasted roughly six minutes and was described as moderately explosive, with a dense, rapidly ascending ash column.

PHIVOLCS raised Mayon’s alert level from 2 to Level 3, citing a new phase of magmatic activity and an increased chance of lava flows and pyroclastic density currents in the near future.

The institute urged residents within a 6‑kilometer Permanent Danger Zone to evacuate immediately, and civil aviation authorities were advised to keep aircraft away from the summit.

Ashfall is expected to reach communities in Daraga, Guinobatan and surrounding Albay municipalities as the plume moves west–southwest.
