Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced on Sunday that it would designate Britain’s Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and MI6 as “terrorist and hostile” entities, a move aimed at countering what Tehran calls the United Kingdom’s anti‑Iran policies.
The decree, adopted by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, was issued as part of a resolution that the ministry said would take force on Sunday, Xinhua reported. The statement criticized the UK for allegedly violating the United Nations Charter and international law, particularly in respect to national sovereignty and the prohibition of unlawful measures against other states.
According to the ministry, British actions including the use of UK territory for military bases and facilities that support operations against Iran, and the designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a threat to national security, constitute the hostile conduct prompting the designation.
Diplomatic notes said the measures were taken “in accordance with international law and the principle of reciprocity,” the ministry added, warning that the British government would bear responsibility for the consequences of its policy decisions.
No official statement from the United Kingdom explaining or responding to the designation has yet been issued, leaving the situation unconfirmed beyond the Iranian announcement.
