In brief

Egypt's Ministry of Petroleum unveiled a promising natural gas find in the eastern Mediterranean, estimating 200 billion cubic feet, while a 22‑km pipeline is slated to connect the discovery to the national grid. The discovery was made at the Nessim‑1X well inside the Temsah concession, run by Petrobel, and technical studies continue to refine recoverable volumes. The Egyptian Gazette also noted positive drilling results, though it has not yet released detailed figures.

Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced on Friday that drilling at the Nessim‑1X exploration well in its eastern Mediterranean Temsah concession had uncovered a promising natural gas reservoir, Xinhua reported.

The ministry said initial tests indicated a gas‑bearing layer with a net thickness of roughly 15 m and estimated the reservoir to hold about 200 billion cubic feet of natural gas. Technical and reservoir studies are underway to assess recoverable volumes and production potential.

Petrobel, the joint venture between Italy’s EnI and Egypt’s General Petroleum Corporation, carried out the drilling on behalf of EnI and Australia's Woodside, which hold rights to the Temsah block.

Georgia’s ministry outlined a plan to connect the well to existing infrastructure via a 22‑km pipeline linking it to the Abu Madi‑El Gamil line, a move intended to accelerate the field’s development and increase Egypt’s domestic gas supply.

The Egyptian Gazette also reported that the ministry “announced positive results” from the Nessim‑1X well, but it has not yet released specific figures or confirmed the reserve size.

While Xinhua’s figures are the only detailed estimates available at this time, the Gazette’s brief confirmation underscores that the discovery is proceeding, though some specifics remain unverified.
