At least two people have been killed and six others wounded during a shooting at Toronto's St Clair Avenue Salsa on St Clair Latin festival.
Police received an active‑shooter report at about 20:12 local time (01:12 BST) on July 11, when a salsa festival was underway.
Investigators recovered two firearms and identified six victims with gunshot wounds. Two were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are handling three separate crime scenes and have not yet arrested anyone. They are urging witnesses to come forward with information.
Deputy Police Chief Francisco Barredo described the scene as very chaotic, noting the festival had an estimated 13,000 attendees.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford condemned the “senseless violence” and vowed to bring the suspect to justice, while Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed shock and prayers for the victims.
The festival, marking its 22nd edition, ordinarily attracts live music and dance performances but was abruptly halted amid the tragic incident.
