Police are investigating an 'apparent homicide' after two people were found dead at the Los Angeles home of director and actor Rob Reiner.

Firefighters were called to a house in the Brentwood neighbourhood of Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon, where they found a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman, the LA Fire Department confirmed. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials have yet to identify the deceased or provide details about the circumstances surrounding their deaths. Rob Reiner, the noted filmmaker, is also 78, while his wife Michele is 68.

Known for classics such as The Princess Bride and When Harry Met Sally, Reiner's work has left an indelible mark on Hollywood. A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department disclosed that they received a call for medical assistance shortly before 3:38 PM local time on Sunday.

Brentwood, a neighbourhood famed for its affluence and celebrity residents, drew immediate attention after the incident. Robbery homicide detectives have also joined the investigation, characterizing the case as an 'apparent homicide'.

Upon entering the residence, officials discovered two deceased individuals, but details about their identities remain unconfirmed.

Authorities have not released additional information regarding the circumstances of the deaths. Rob Reiner, who gained fame as Meathead in the iconic sitcom All in The Family, was married to actress Penny Marshall from 1971 until their divorce in 1981, and he adopted her daughter Tracy. In 1989, Reiner married Michele, an actress and photographer, and they share three children: Jake, Nick, and Romy.
