CHARLOTTE, N.C. (RTW News) — In a disturbing incident, police in Charlotte, North Carolina, have arrested a 33-year-old man for critically injuring another person in a stabbing aboard a commuter train. Oscar Solarzano faced charges of attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon following the Friday afternoon attack, as reported by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

The victim sustained a stab wound and is currently in critical but stable condition at a local hospital. Reports indicate that Solarzano was intoxicated during the incident and allegedly challenged the victim to a fight prior to the stabbing.

Solarzano is being held at the county jail without bond, as a magistrate noted that he is in the U.S. illegally, having previously been deported. A court hearing is scheduled for Monday morning in Mecklenburg County District Court.

This stabbing comes just months after a tragic incident, where Iryna Zarutska, a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee, was murdered on a similar train. Her death, which was captured on video, shocked the community and raised concerns over safety in public transit. The suspect in that case, Decarlos Brown Jr., has been charged with first-degree murder and faced federal charges as well for the assault on a mass transportation system.
