Canadian actor Kiefer Sutherland has been arrested after allegedly assaulting and threatening a ride-share driver in Hollywood, police have said.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) reported that Sutherland entered a ride-share vehicle, physically assaulted the driver (the victim), and made criminal threats at around 00:15 PST on Monday. Fortunately, the victim did not sustain any injuries.

Sutherland, 59, was released on a $50,000 bond and is expected to appear in court on February 2. The incident occurred at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue and is currently under investigation by the LAPD's Hollywood Division.

Known for his iconic roles as special agent Jack Bauer on Fox's '24' and as the US president in 'Designated Survivor', Sutherland is also the son of renowned actor Donald Sutherland. This is not his first brush with the law; he has been arrested multiple times. In 2007, he served 48 days for driving under the influence and violating probation. He was arrested for assault in 2009, though that charge was ultimately dropped, and most recently was involved in a legal issue for making an illegal U-turn in 2020.
