SpaceX Rocket Surprends Christmas Island Coast After Indian Ocean Landing

A 52‑metre SpaceX rocket returned to the Indian Ocean after a test launch from Texas on 24 July and was later seen towing near the coast of Christmas Island.

Local tourism chair, David Watchorn, first thought he was seeing ships but soon realised it was a rocket, sparking excitement in the community.

Watchorn told the BBC, “It’s really incredible to think about what it’s been through.” He added that the more one looks at the launch vehicle, the more fascinating it becomes.

The sighting has caused locals to sneak out of work for a glimpse and prepare their boats for a closer look at the debris. Apart from the rocket’s size, the incident has brought media attention and intense curiosity from both residents and industry observers.
