South Park Satirists Rename Show ‘South America’ in Bold Trump Tease
Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the creators of the iconic animated series, have announced that the next season will be christened “South America,” a sharp‑edged jab at former President Donald Trump’s attempts to rename Canadian and Mexican waters.
The duo posted a striking image of the familiar South Park sign, with the word “Park” replaced by “America,” along with a declaration that the change was inspired by the “bravery and patriotism” of tech giants Apple and Google. The announcement coincided with the show’s recent win for Outstanding Animated Program at the 2026 Emmy Awards.
Trump’s controversial executive order last August renamed Lake Ontario as “Lake America,” and last year he proclaimed the Gulf of Mexico should also be known as the Gulf of America. Those moves sparked protests from Canada and Mexico alike and raised fears of a broadening domestic re‑branding push.
Stone and Parker have long mocked Trump in the series, earning the President himself an unflattering headline: “South Park, a ‘fourth‑rate’ show missing a hook.” Their most recent satire featured a fictionalized Trump waking up “naked in bed with Satan,” a scene that drew criticism from White House officials and MAGA supporters.
In addition to the renaming, the creators thanked Paramount and its subsidiary Skydance, which managed the show’s production. Paramount Skydance’s parent company is embroiled in a $111 billion merger with Warner Bros Discovery that has been temporarily halted amid concerns over market competition.
The new season is set to premiere on 16 September, promising more humor, controversy, and perhaps more political coffee‑house cartoons that keep the audience on edge.
