The total number of injured reached 40, with 17 people hospitalised, the governor of the Krasnodar region, Veniamin Kondratyev, announced.

He accused Ukraine of a “deliberate strike on civilians”, to which both sides deny targeting civilians intentionally. The drone’s intended target remains unclear; Ukrainian Telegram channels report it was knocked off-course by electronic warfare jamming, while Russian media mention gunfire preceding the explosion, implying air defences may have tried to down the drone.

The strike occurred on a beach near Arkhipo‑Osipovka on the Black Sea, a popular holiday destination for Russians amid tightened international travel. Tourists and residents claimed no sirens sounded before the attack.

“We covered ourselves with sun loungers and didn’t see where it exploded,” said one holidaymaker. Another reported hearing “gunfire… followed by an explosion,” while a third lamented, “This all happened in front of my children. My child is having a nervous breakdown.”
