In brief

Robert Kabera, 50, a former Rwandan army sergeant who turned popular YouTuber, was discovered beheaded on the outskirts of Kampala. He had fled Rwanda after a sexual‑assault allegation he denied, seeking asylum in Uganda. Ugandan police say his head remains missing. The killing follows a pattern of violent attacks on critics of President Paul Kagame across borders. Families of exiled dissidents now warn of growing danger.

Robert Kabera, 50, was a former Rwandan army sergeant who turned to music and YouTube to voice criticism of President Paul Kagame.

After a perjured accusation of sexual assault he denied, he fled Rwanda and applied for asylum in Uganda, declaring political persecution.

Local residents uncovered his body on a Kampala suburb road; police confirmed he had been beheaded and his head remains unrecovered.

The Rwandan government has not commented. His widow, Jeanne d'Arc Rwigema Uwizeye, warned of safety threats to the family.

His death follows a history of violent deaths of other Rwandan opposition figures abroad, such as Patrick Karegeya, who died in South Africa in 2014.

The incident heightens the sense that even relief borders cannot guarantee safety for Rwandan exiles.
