A Nigerian social‑media influencer who calls himself KC Luxury was detained at Lagos International Airport as he tried to board a flight to Paris. The 49‑year‑old, whose real name is Afolabi Kazeem Micheal, is facing allegations of spearheading a trans‑national drug trafficking ring.
Authorities reported that 184.5 kg of cocaine, valued at roughly $28 million (£21 million), had been found hidden in brown boxes at a Lagos courier facility on 3 August. The drugs were destined for the UK, other European destinations and parts of Asia.
Upon arrest, the suspect was seen carrying more than $12,840 in cash across euro, pound and naira denominations, alongside expensive jewellery. According to NDLEA officials, these items were consistent with proceeds from illicit trade.
Another key figure, 33‑year‑old Lawal Mujab Kehinde, who worked for a logistics company used to transport the drugs, was also detained. He is alleged to have packaged the cocaine for export and was paid in cash.
“Upon credible intelligence that he intended to flee the country…our operatives moved decisively and apprehended him at the boarding gate…just as he attempted to escape the reach of the law,” said General Buba Marwa, head of NDLEA, at a press conference in Lagos.
NDLEA officials emphasized that other suspects in the UK have been arrested by foreign partners, underscoring the importance of international cooperation in dismantling the smuggling network.
