MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Morgan Geyser, the Wisconsin woman who was released from a mental institution after nearly killing a classmate in an attack inspired by the fictional horror character Slender Man, will not fight extradition from Illinois after her recent escape. Geyser was apprehended by police alongside a companion in Posen, Illinois, after cutting off her GPS monitor and leaving her Madison group home.
During a court hearing, it was confirmed that Geyser agreed not to contest her transfer back to Wisconsin, where authorities might revoke her conditional release and send her back to the facility where she spent most of her young adulthood.
The circumstances surrounding her escape are concerning, as Geyser was found with her companion – identified only as a male – after what appeared to be an overnight stay at a truck stop. The companion, who Geyser had been in contact with daily for a month, cited fears of losing their relationship as one of the reasons for her decision to flee. This is not the first instance where Geyser's actions have raised alarms; her original attack in 2014 involved luring and stabbing a classmate, an act they claimed was meant to appease Slender Man after fearing harm to their families.
With new charges potentially looming and her mental health coming under scrutiny, Geyser's return to Wisconsin within the next 30 days is unavoidable as authorities prepare for her extradition.
