Hediger was an accomplished competitor on the international circuit, having recently achieved significant victories, including a podium finish at a World Cup race in St. Moritz. Just days before her untimely death, she participated in a race in Cervinia, Italy. During her Olympic performance, she notably secured seventh in the mixed team event alongside teammate Kalle Koblet.

On the day of the incident, Hediger was snowboarding on a closed black diamond slope near Arosa when she was caught in an avalanche. Her companion quickly alerted rescue teams, who were able to locate her later in the afternoon. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, Hediger could not be revived and was declared dead at the scene.

Walter Reusser, CEO of Swiss Ski, expressed his deep condolences, calling her death a tragic loss for the "Swiss Ski family" and emphasizing the impact of her passing on the joyous Christmas season. Born in Horgen and a frequent visitor to Arosa, Hediger will be remembered for her contributions to the sport and her spirited presence among peers.
