Syria condemned an Israeli drone strike on the village of Beit Jinn, southwest of its capital Damascus, calling it a violation of its sovereignty and international law.

The attack was the second in Syria within the past week, after a prior strike on the Abu al‑Duhur airbase near the Turkish border. Syria said the drone hit a civilian vehicle, leaving several people injured.

In a post on X, Israel’s military said it had targeted a “terrorist” who was in the final stages of preparing attacks that posed an immediate threat to soldiers in the area.

The latest incident follows reports that Israel struck a military airbase close to the Turkish border, a move that Syria said could heighten regional tensions. Washington has already issued a rare rebuke, warning that the escalation does not advance stability.

U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack suggested that the hit could be “Israel’s baiting the Turks” in a bid to draw Turkey into conflict ahead of Israeli elections, remarks for which Israel’s defence minister Israel Katz denounced as full of inaccuracies.

Israel’s statements come amid ongoing accusations that the country’s operations in Syria stem from deep suspicion toward both Turkey and the Assad regime.
