WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — William Stevenson, a 77-year-old man formerly married to Jill Biden, is facing first-degree murder charges related to the death of his wife, Linda, 64, whose body was discovered in their home last December. The indictment followed a detailed investigation led by the Delaware Department of Justice, which remains ongoing as no motive has been disclosed.

Authorities report that police responded to a domestic dispute call shortly after 11 p.m. on December 28, where they subsequently found Linda unresponsive in the living room. Despite attempts to revive her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Stevenson has been unable to secure the $500,000 bail and remains in custody as he awaits further legal actions. Whether he has legal representation was not immediately clear. Previously, he had a public marriage to Jill Biden from 1970 until their divorce in 1975, after which she married current U.S. President Joe Biden in 1977. A spokesperson for the Biden family stated that Jill Biden would not comment on this recent development.

Linda Stevenson was remembered in her obituary as a devoted family member, exemplary mother, and Philadelphia Eagles enthusiast, with no mention of her husband included. William Stevenson has had a history in Delaware as the founder of the Stone Balloon, a famed music venue established in the early 1970s and has made critical comments about Jill Biden in past interviews.
