EFCC chief Olukoyede fires 40 agents
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission chairman Ola Olukoyede told journalists in Abuja that more than forty of his agents have been dismissed for alleged corruption and financial misconduct during his three-year tenure.
He explained that the agency’s Department of Internal Affairs has been renamed the Department of Ethics and Integrity, and a new gifts and hospitality policy now requires officers to declare gifts that exceed a set threshold, including those from relatives abroad.
Olukoyede said the dismissal of staff has been part of a broader reform agenda aimed at ensuring that “your hands are clean” when policing Nigeria’s public finances.
Since taking office in October 2023 the EFCC has recovered 1.23 trillion naira ($925m), filed 14,476 cases, and secured 10,872 convictions out of 39,615 investigations launched.
The commission’s caseload is now increasingly focused on cybercrime and fraud, moving beyond high‑profile corruption cases to address the evolving threat landscape.
