PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The shooting at Brown University on Saturday took place inside an engineering building situated at the eastern edge of the campus, nestled against a quiet residential neighborhood. Hours ahead of the tragedy, security footage revealed a person of interest who police believe may have been scouting the area.

The timeline of video evidence shared by police and the FBI unfolds as follows:

2:00 PM - 2:08 PM: The suspect, dressed in dark clothing and a mask, was seen strolling along a sidewalk near Manning Street before turning onto Cooke Street, then George Street, where they passed multiple historic mansions. They lingered near Hope Street, a renowned thoroughfare bordering Brown’s campus.

2:08 PM - 2:13 PM: The person appeared on Benevolent Street, pausing at the Rhode Island Historical Society’s Aldrich House, which is equipped with surveillance cameras. Following this, they wandered near the Aldrich House’s side entrance and around its gated lawn.

2:16 PM - 2:18 PM: Footage noted the person turning abruptly on George Street, with another individual closely trailing them, carrying a light-colored bag.

2:20 PM: Video captured the individual sprinting east on Benevolent Street, fleeing away from the campus.

2:51 PM - 2:53 PM: The person was again seen traversing George, Cooke, and Manning Streets, retracing prior steps, before doorbell camera footage revealed them headed toward the university.

2:53 PM: Video from a nearby vehicle showed the individual turning onto Hope Street towards a parking lot adjacent to the Barus and Holley engineering building.

4:03 PM: Gunfire erupted within a classroom during a student study session for a final economics exam, leading to two deaths and nine injuries.

4:06 PM: The person of interest calmly walked back toward the previously mentioned area. A police vehicle arrived shortly after, and the individual was observed continuing to walk at a leisurely pace.

4:15 PM: The search intensified as darkness fell upon Providence.
