Nigerian Government Rewards Women's Football Team with $100,000 Each

Celebrating the Super Falcons' recent Wafcon victory, President Tinubu promises substantial cash rewards and honors for the players.

In a grand ceremony at Aso Rock, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu expressed profound pride in the Super Falcons, announcing that each member of the victorious team would receive a reward of $100,000 alongside three-bedroom homes. This recognition comes after the national women's football team secured their tenth Women's Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) title, defeating Morocco in a thrilling final. The president praised the players' hard work and resilience, while also acknowledging past issues of delayed payments for sports teams in Nigeria.

Amidst the celebrations, concerns about the government's follow-through on promises surfaced. The Super Falcons' captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, dedicated their victory to young girls aspiring to pursue football and emphasized the need for sustained support to elevate the team's profile. Despite historical challenges, including protests over unpaid bonuses, the government vowed to implement timely compensation for athletes moving forward, aiming to create a more equitable environment for women's sports in Nigeria.

The event marked a pivotal moment for the squad, now celebrated nationally, as they aspire to elevate the Super Falcons to the world's top echelon of women's football.

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu's grand reception of the Super Falcons not only celebrated their Wafcon victory but also came with promises of monetary and housing rewards for the players.
