British Tourist Arrested in Namibia for Child Exploitation Over Nude Photos
A British man faces serious charges after allegedly molesting minors in Namibia.
A British tourist has been detained in Namibia following accusations of sexually molesting minors and capturing nude photographs of them. Douglas Robert Brook, aged 65, reportedly targeted young boys and girls from the local San community while vacationing in the central Otjozondjupa region. Local media sources indicate he faces an astonishing 38 charges, including rape, indecent assault, and child exploitation.
The police reported that Brook, who arrived in Namibia just a week ago, allegedly used sweets and money to lure 34 children into posing for nude photographs. The UK Foreign Office has confirmed they are in contact with local officials regarding the case of the arrested British citizen.
Regional police chief Maureen Mbeha disclosed that Brook is believed to have abused 16 teenage girls and 14 boys. During the investigation, authorities found several nude images of children on the man's camera, which was seized post-arrest. He attended a court hearing at the Grootfontein Magistrate Court near the capital, Windhoek, where he was denied bail and will remain in custody until further proceedings next month. Prosecutors have requested additional time to conduct their investigation.
Namibia's Ministry of Environment and Tourism expressed outrage over the incident, labeling it "deeply disrespectful" to the San community's cultural heritage. They emphasized that no one, whether a national or foreigner, has the right to exploit or objectify indigenous communities or their children for any purpose, including photographic representation. Namibia is widely recognized for its stunning desert scenery and vibrant cultural diversity, making it a favored tourist destination.
