Khalil Fong, a prominent figure in the Hong Kong music scene, tragically passed away on February 21, 2025, as announced by his record label Fu Music. The circumstances of his death remain undisclosed, but the label revealed that Fong had been battling an “unrelenting illness” for five years.
Fong, who expertly blended soul and R&B influences into his Mandarin pop songs, resonated with audiences in Hong Kong, mainland China, and across the broader Chinese-speaking community. In a 2016 interview with The South China Morning Post, he reflected on the challenges of introducing soul music to the region, expressing his desire to make the genre accessible within a Chinese linguistic framework.
His ascent in the music industry began in 2005 with the release of his debut album, “Soulboy,” through Warner Music Hong Kong.
