The wife and children of Mohamed Sabry Soliman, the man charged in a Boulder attack, have been arrested by immigration officials amid ongoing investigations.
The wife and five children of Mohamed Sabry Soliman, the suspect linked to a violent attack in Boulder, Colorado, have been arrested by U.S. immigration officials, as confirmed by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. Soliman, 45, faces multiple charges, including attempted murder and a federal hate crime, following an incident on Sunday that injured a dozen people participating in a march advocating for the release of Israeli hostages.
"We are looking into how much his family might have known about his intentions and actions," Noem stated in a post on X. Witnesses reported that Soliman shouted "Free Palestine" while throwing two incendiary devices into the crowd, leading to significant injuries among attendees. Among the injured was Rabbi Israel Wilhelm, a Holocaust survivor and Chabad director at the University of Colorado Boulder.
While Noem shared a video showing the family's arrest, the future status of Soliman's wife and children remains unclear, including the possibility of deportation. Reports indicate that Soliman's daughter recently graduated high school, showcasing a life impacted by her father's actions.
Documents reveal that Soliman entered the U.S. on a tourist visa in August 2022, which expired the next year, after which he filed an asylum claim. In police statements, he confessed to planning the attack for a year, insisting that he had not informed his family of his intentions. A phone left for his family, which they later turned over to authorities, reportedly contained messages regarding his plans.
Meanwhile, one of Soliman's daughters has recently been recognized in a scholarship program, expressing how her move to the U.S. has transformed her perspective on family and work. This was highlighted in a local newspaper that featured her achievements, including being interested in medicine.
Following the attack, Soliman made a brief court appearance via video feed from the Boulder County Jail, answering procedural questions but remaining mostly silent. A formal hearing regarding the charges and bail is scheduled for this Thursday. The investigation continues as authorities probe further into the dynamics of Soliman's family and the attack's motives.
