Mohamed Sabry Soliman, an Egyptian national, arrived in the U.S. on a tourist visa in August 2022; however, he overstayed his visa, which expired in February 2023.
According to Tricia McLaughlin, a spokesperson for the Homeland Security Department, Soliman applied for asylum shortly after his arrival, in September 2022. The details surrounding the violent incident have left the community in shock, as eight individuals were hospitalized following an attack involving a makeshift flamethrower. The attack occurred on Sunday while the victims were participating in a peaceful march supporting Israeli hostages in Gaza.
