A dramatic theft incident unfolded in Orlando last week, where a man identified as 32-year-old Jaythan Gilder reportedly swallowed stolen earrings worth almost $770,000 right before police apprehended him. According to the Orlando Police, Gilder misled Tiffany & Co. employees into believing he was representing a "professional athlete," which prompted them to showcase several high-value jewelry items.

After allegedly stealing two pairs of earrings and a diamond ring, Gilder fled the scene. However, law enforcement caught up with him later that day, witnessing him consuming several objects believed to be the stolen earrings. The jewels were valued at approximately $769,500 (£597,000).

Authorities later released an x-ray image revealing what appeared to be a foreign object in an individual's abdomen, though they did not confirm if the jewelry had been successfully recovered. Notably, Gilder has a prior record with Tiffany & Co., having robbed a store in Texas in 2022, and he is also wanted in Colorado for 48 other warrants. He has been formally charged with robbery with a mask and first-degree grand theft, as the stolen items exceeded $100,000 in value. Gilder is presumed innocent until officially proven guilty in a court of law.
