US Marine Park Under Investigation Amid Animal Welfare Allegations

Authorities have launched an investigation into Gulf World Marine Park in Panama City Beach, Florida, due to reports of poor animal welfare and multiple dolphin deaths.

Law enforcement and wildlife officials have conducted a raid on the Gulf World Marine Park following serious allegations of animal mistreatment. This comes after an alarming number of dolphin fatalities, with recent reports indicating that four dolphins have died in the last year.

Activists from UrgentSeas have shared drone footage suggesting that the park's dolphin habitats consist of murky green water, which they argue points to declining welfare conditions at the facility. Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier condemned any form of animal abuse, affirming his commitment to animal welfare.

The search warrant executed by Florida's Department of Law Enforcement and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) was initiated at Uthmeier's behest, particularly after reports emerged that The Dolphin Company had obstructed FWC staff from conducting a welfare check on the dolphins.

Local media have cited that recent fatalities included three dolphins dying in October, with a fourth dolphin perishing earlier this month after suffering an injury while performing tricks. The Dolphin Company, which operates the park, lists a variety of marine and other wildlife, including bottlenose dolphins, sea lions, and various birds.

Phil Demers, director of UrgentSeas, expressed deep concern over the deteriorating conditions at the park, pledging to document and advocate for the rescue of the affected animals. He stressed the urgency of the situation, stating, "I fear that these animals may continue to suffer as conditions worsen."

This ongoing situation has garnered significant attention, and animal rights advocates are calling for immediate changes to ensure the welfare and safety of the park's inhabitants.
