Florida Man Swallows Stolen Tiffany Earrings Before Arrest
A thief is in custody after swallowing high-value earrings worth nearly $770,000, moments before police apprehended him in Orlando.
In a bizarre incident in Orlando, Florida, a man was arrested after allegedly swallowing stolen Tiffany & Co. earrings valued at over $769,000. The accused, 32-year-old Jaythan Gilder, reportedly misled store employees by claiming he represented a "professional athlete," prompting them to display several high-value items. He then allegedly stole the earrings and fled the scene.
When police caught up with Gilder hours later, he was seen swallowing items believed to be the stolen jewelry, according to the Orlando Police Department. They have since released an x-ray image showing a foreign object in his abdomen. In addition to the earrings, Gilder reportedly attempted to steal a diamond ring that he dropped while escaping the store.
Authorities have confirmed that Gilder has a history of theft, having previously robbed a Tiffany & Co. location in Texas in 2022. He also has 48 outstanding arrest warrants in Colorado. Facing charges of grand theft and robbery while masked, Gilder is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
