Michelle Obama Addresses Divorce Rumors Amid Speculation
Michelle Obama clarifies marital status amid ongoing rumors surrounding her relationship with Barack Obama.
Michelle Obama has recently addressed the swirling divorce rumors regarding her marriage to former President Barack Obama, amidst heightened public speculation. Over the past several months, her absence from several high-profile events, such as Donald Trump’s inauguration and the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter, has fueled conjectures about their relationship.
On the “Work in Progress” podcast hosted by actress Sophia Bush, Michelle responded to these rumors without directly referencing the events in question. She expressed her newfound ability to manage her own schedule as a "grown woman," emphasizing that her choices should not be misconstrued as indications of marital discord.
“People find it hard to believe that I am making a decision for myself, leading them to assume that my husband and I are divorcing,” she stated. Michelle further articulated her feelings of guilt regarding stepping back from certain public duties, noting, “We as women often struggle with disappointing people.”
She reflected on societal perceptions, noting that many could not fathom her decision-making capabilities, insisting, “This couldn't be a grown woman just making a set of decisions for herself.”
Despite prioritizing her own needs, Michelle reaffirmed her commitment to significant causes, stating she continues to engage in speaking engagements and projects related to girls’ education. The Obamas celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary last October, and she has previously shared her personal challenges during their time in the White House in her critically acclaimed memoir, "Becoming."
