In a shocking incident, the Rapid Support Forces (R.S.F.), a Sudanese paramilitary group, have killed all nine employees of a medical clinic in the Zamzam camp, located in El Fasher, North Darfur. The assault, part of a larger operation that reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least 100 people, has drawn condemnation from aid organizations and the United Nations.
The clinic was the last remaining medical facility in the besieged camp, which is home to around 500,000 people facing severe famine. Reports indicate that the paramilitaries initiated their attack on Friday evening after performing hours of shelling on the camp, followed by a ground assault that led to the destruction of numerous homes and the main market.
Relief International, which managed the clinic, confirmed the tragic loss of nine staff members, including the head doctor. Kashif Shafique, the organization's Sudan director, indicated that the medics had received warnings to evacuate the area before the assault, yet they felt compelled to remain to treat civilians who were injured by prior bombardments. Unfortunately, the main exit routes from the camp had been blocked, leaving them unable to escape the impending danger.
