BTS Members RM and V Complete Military Service, Fans Eager for Comeback
K-pop superstars RM and V return as devoted fans celebrate their discharge and eagerly anticipate the group's reunion.
Two members of the globally acclaimed K-pop group BTS, RM and V, marked the completion of their mandatory military service, igniting a wave of enthusiasm among fans worldwide. The idols were discharged on Tuesday, where they greeted supporters with military salutes and a special saxophone performance. In a heartfelt address, V encouraged fans to "wait just a little longer" for the group's long-anticipated return.
Hundreds of fans, including many who traveled internationally, assembled at the headquarters of their agency, Hybe, in central Seoul to celebrate this milestone. Many supporters wore purple, the signature color of BTS, and carried large banners and images of the two stars. A celebratory banner reading "We are back" was proudly displayed on the Hybe building.
Fans expressed their emotional joy upon seeing the idols back. "This feels incredible. To be here in Seoul, to see the place where BTS grew up and started singing and dancing is amazing,” one fan from the UK, Janya, told The Korea Herald. Another fan, Ivory from Australia, shared her excitement, saying, "It's been a long, long time without you. I'm so glad you're back and finally free to do whatever you want to do." Hannah Chung from London had planned her trip two years earlier, eagerly awaiting this moment and looking forward to the upcoming BTS Festa celebration marking the group's debut.
During their discharge event in Chuncheon, RM expressed his gratitude to fans for their patience, remarking, "Now, I'm ready to hit the ground running again as RM of BTS." He thanked fans for their unwavering support while V shared that his time in the military served as a much-needed "reset" for him both mentally and physically.
BTS, which debuted in 2013, rose to international fame following a highly successful U.S. tour in 2017, blending genres of pop, hip-hop, and R&B primarily in Korean. Since then, they have achieved remarkable records, becoming the most-streamed group on Spotify and the first K-pop act to secure top spots on various U.S. music charts. The group's advocacy for youth issues and mental health, coupled with their influential meetings with world leaders, bolsters their status as cultural icons.
Having started their military service progressively from 2022, all seven members of BTS are expected to complete their service by the end of this month, paving the way for their prospective reunion.
