Mob Justice Claims Another Royal Bengal Tiger in Assam

In Assam, India, a Royal Bengal tiger was brutally killed by villagers after reportedly attacking livestock, raising serious concerns about human-animal conflict in the region.

A Royal Bengal tiger was killed and mutilated by an angry mob in Assam's Golaghat district, as residents reacted to livestock attacks and perceived threats to their safety. This incident, which is the third recorded tiger killing this year, highlights ongoing man-animal conflicts exacerbated by shrinking habitats.

Forest official Gunadeep Das reported that around a thousand villagers congregated, leading to the tragic event where the tiger succumbed to sharp injuries. The incident has drawn condemnation from local lawmakers, with promises of strict actions against those responsible. As the tiger population in Assam has risen due to conservation efforts, such violent reactions expose the challenges of coexistence and the necessity for effective wildlife management strategies.

The tiger's remains have been sent for autopsy, with investigations underway to address the issue of human encroachment on wildlife territories.
