Archaeologists have revealed an ancient city named Peñico in Peru's Barranca province, believed to have been a crucial trading hub connecting various early communities. Located about 200km north of Lima, the city was founded between 1800 and 1500 BC, coinciding with the rise of major civilizations in other parts of the world, including the Middle East. Over eight years of excavation, researchers uncovered 18 structures, including ceremonial temples and residential complexes. Notable artifacts, including ceremonial objects and clay sculptures, were also found. Dr. Ruth Shady, who led the research, emphasized Peñico's importance in understanding the evolution of the Caral civilization amidst climate challenges. This discovery underscores Peru's rich archaeological heritage, which includes landmarks like Machu Picchu and the Nazca Lines.
