Jiggly Caliente, beloved Drag Star, passes away at 44

Jiggly Caliente, renowned for her vibrant personality and impactful artistry, has left a lasting legacy in the drag community and beyond.

Bianca Castro-Arabejo, famously known as Jiggly Caliente, has tragically passed away at the age of 44, as confirmed by her family. A familiar face from the fourth season of RuPaul's Drag Race, Caliente's legacy extended beyond reality television; she was also a judge on Drag Race Philippines and embraced a pivotal role in the acclaimed series Pose.

Her family shared the heart-wrenching news in an Instagram statement, revealing that she died early Sunday morning surrounded by loved ones. "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Bianca Castro-Arabejo, known to the world and cherished by many as Jiggly Caliente," the statement read.

Having undergone a leg amputation due to a severe infection just days before her passing, Caliente's struggle with health issues was made known to her fans. Her family paid tribute to her spirit, highlighting her "infectious energy, fierce wit, and unwavering authenticity," and stressing that her impact on countless lives through her talent and activism will remain eternal.

The drag community has joined in mourning her loss, with fellow queens expressing their condolences online. Notably, Laganja Estranja called her a "kind, caring soul," while Drag Race UK star Baga Chipz described Caliente as "one of the kindest, sweetest souls I've ever met." Many have shared heartfelt narratives of Caliente's support and mentorship throughout her career.

Born in the Philippines in 1980, Caliente moved to New York City as a child, where she quickly became a fan favorite on Drag Race due to her humor and memorable quips. Her time on the show spawned iconic moments, including the memorable catchphrase "this is not RuPaul's Best Friend Race," popularized during a confrontation with a fellow contestant.

Throughout her career, Jiggly Caliente graced both stage and screen, showcasing her talent in sitcoms like Broad City and Search Party and playing the character of Veronica in Pose. Coming out as transgender in 2016, she later returned to the Drag Race franchise by competing in RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars and serving as a judge on Drag Race Philippines.
