**Survival Story: German Backpacker Rescued After 11 Days Lost in Outback**

Carolina Wilga, from Germany, was found after a grueling 11 nights lost in Western Australia’s outback, showcasing human resilience in the face of adversity.

Carolina Wilga, a 26-year-old backpacker from Germany, has been rescued after enduring an astonishing 11 nights lost in the harsh terrain of Western Australia’s outback. Following her disappearance, police reported that she managed to survive by drinking rainwater and eating what little food she had on her. Ms. Wilga was found suffering from severe exhaustion, dehydration, and multiple insect bites, along with an injury to her foot.

The ordeal began when her van became immobilized in a remote area, leading to her wandering approximately 24 kilometers (15 miles) away in a "confused and disoriented" state. Authorities indicated she had all but lost hope of being rescued. Thankfully, sheer luck played a critical role in her return to safety, when a passerby spotted her signaling for help from the roadside.

Tania Henley, the driver who discovered Ms. Wilga, recounted the harrowing scene, noting that her condition appeared fragile, exacerbated by the elements she had been exposed to for nearly two weeks. "Everything in this bush is very prickly. I just can't believe that she survived. She had no shoes on; she'd wrapped her foot up," Henley explained.

The last confirmed sighting of Ms. Wilga prior to her rescue was at a general store in Beacon, Western Australia, on June 29th. Authorities located her abandoned van a day before her rescue, indicating that it had become stuck and was beyond repair.

Currently, Ms. Wilga is recovering in a Perth hospital, where she reported having a "good night's sleep" and is now taking each day as it comes, assisted by medical professionals and family who are deeply relieved by her safe return.
