A French helicopter crew have survived after the aircraft they were travelling in crashed into a lake while trying to collect water to fight wildfires. An eyewitness filmed the helicopter descending towards the water carrying a vessel for water collection, before losing control and ending up in the lake in Rosporden, north-western France.

According to a statement from the local municipality, the pilot, along with an officer aboard the helicopter and a witness, were promptly taken to a local hospital with no fatalities reported. Safety measures have been implemented by authorities to contain potential pollution caused by the crash.

In a statement on social media, the Mayor of Rosporden, Michel Loussouarn, assured the community of ongoing safety efforts amidst the wildfire crisis gripping the region.
