Manhunt Intensifies for Shooter in Brian Thompson's Killing

Authorities in New York are amplifying their efforts in the investigation surrounding the killing of health insurance executive Brian Thompson, who was shot while en route to a conference in Midtown on Wednesday. The NYPD unveiled two new images of the unidentified suspect captured from a vehicle, shedding light on the man believed to be responsible for Thompson’s death. The shocking murder appears to have been premeditated, according to police insights.

Thompson, aged 50 and a father of two, was shot in the back as he made his way to an investor gathering where he was slated to address attendees. Eyewitness accounts suggest the assailant fled the scene on foot before switching to a bicycle, heading toward Central Park. New York City Mayor Eric Adams stated on Saturday that the "net is tightening" around the suspect, who remains elusive despite diligent efforts from law enforcement, including the employment of facial recognition tools.

To expedite the search, the FBI has offered a reward of $50,000 for information leading to the shooter’s capture. The recently released photographs show a man in a hooded sweatshirt and a disposable face mask, first seen in the back of a taxi and later outside the vehicle. Adding intrigue to the case, a backpack associated with the suspect was found near the crime scene, containing a Tommy Hilfiger jacket and Monopoly money.

As the motive behind the shooting is scrutinized, authorities have also discovered concerning wording inscribed on bullet casings near the victim, including "deny," "defend," and "depose," terms often linked to criticism of the U.S. private health insurance industry. Amidst this backdrop, reports have emerged pointing to the possibility that the shooter may have left New York City, potentially heading towards Atlanta, Georgia.
