Eric Dane Reveals ALS Diagnosis: Euphoria Star Opens Up About His Health
Eric Dane, known for his roles in Euphoria and Grey's Anatomy, shares his battle with ALS and plans for the future.
Euphoria and Grey’s Anatomy actor Eric Dane has recently disclosed that he is diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a common form of motor neurone disease (MND). In an interview with People, the 52-year-old actor conveyed his gratitude for the supportive presence of his family as they tackle this new chapter together.
Dane shared that he feels "fortunate to continue working," expressing eagerness to return to the set of HBO’s Euphoria for the upcoming season three production starting Monday. He also requested privacy for himself and his loved ones during this period.
He plays Cal Jacobs, the patriarch of the Jacob family, in the hit series Euphoria. Before this role, Dane was well-known for portraying Dr. Mark Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy from 2006, and he has starred in various other shows and films, including Charmed, The Last Ship, Marley & Me, Valentine's Day, and Burlesque.
The actor has been married to actress and model Rebecca Gayheart, and they share two children together.
ALS, often referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease, leads to the degeneration of motor neurons, affecting both the brain and spinal cord responsible for controlling muscle movement. Symptoms typically begin with muscle twitching or weakness in the limbs, eventually progressing to slurred speech. Unfortunately, there is currently no cure for ALS, with life expectancy generally ranging from three to five years post-diagnosis, although some individuals may survive for decades with the condition.
