Manoj Kumar, Iconic Bollywood Actor and Director, Passes Away at 87

Manoj Kumar's passing marks the end of an era in Bollywood, leaving behind a timeless legacy of movies that celebrated Indian nationalism.

Veteran Bollywood actor and director Manoj Kumar has passed away at the age of 87 in Mumbai, as confirmed by Dr. Santosh Shetty of Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, where he was receiving treatment. His son, Kunal Goswami, reported that Kumar had faced various health challenges in recent years.

Kumar built a distinguished career marked by iconic patriotic films that gained him widespread recognition during the 1960s and 1970s. Born as Harikrishan Goswami in 1937 in Punjab, he became a significant figure in Hindi cinema, noted for classics such as Shaheed, Roti Kapada Aur Makaan, and Kranti. His work resonated deeply with audiences, often reflecting themes of national pride and valor.

Over his illustrious career, Kumar garnered numerous accolades, including the prestigious Padma Shri award, which ranks as India's fourth highest civilian honor. He was also the recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, honoring his exceptional contributions to Indian cinema.

Social media has been flooded with tributes following his demise. Prime Minister Narendra Modi honored Kumar as an "icon of Indian cinema," stating, "Manoj Ji's works ignited a spirit of national pride and will continue to inspire generations." Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit also expressed his sorrow, calling Kumar's passing a significant loss for the film community, underscoring how deeply he will be missed throughout the industry.
