A state funeral in Iran has been conducted for approximately 60 individuals, including high-ranking military officials and nuclear experts, who perished during a recent 12-day conflict with Israel. The ceremony took place near Tehran's Enghelab Square, featuring coffins adorned with the Iranian flag and portraits of the deceased.

Mourners, dressed in black and waving Iranian flags, voiced their grief with slogans while the government mobilized media campaigns to encourage participation. The authorities facilitated free transit services and shut down government offices for the occasion. Among those honored was Mohammad Bagheri, the top military officer in Iran, whose family also died in the conflict. Official reports indicate that 627 Iranians lost their lives in the violence, while Israeli sources claim 28 people were killed by missile strikes from Iran.

Prominent figures, including Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and advisor to supreme leader Ali Khamenei, Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani, attended the ceremony. Shamkhani himself was injured during the conflict, which concluded with a ceasefire earlier this week, triggered by U.S. bombing operations targeting critical nuclear infrastructure in Iran.

In the backdrop, U.S. President Donald Trump stated his readiness to consider further military action against Iran, contingent on intelligence regarding their uranium enrichment capabilities. Trump's comments, which were directed at the Iranian leadership, drew a sharp rebuke from Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, who warned against disrespectful remarks toward Khamenei. Araghchi defended the resilience of the Iranian people, emphasizing the consequences of threats and insults.

Concerns remain regarding the extent of damage inflicted on Iran's nuclear facilities, with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) underscoring the need for diplomatic solutions rather than military action to address nuclear proliferation.

Despite recent threats, Trump mentioned efforts to discuss sanctions relief for Iran. However, he asserted that Khamenei's statements had derailed these initiatives, further complicating the geopolitical landscape as Tehran grapples with the ramifications of ongoing conflicts and internal strife.
