American pilot Ethan Guo has been released from a Chilean air base in Antarctica after being detained for two months for allegedly illegally landing his plane in the country's territory.

Mr. Guo, 20, was released on Saturday after being ordered to pay a $30,000 (£22,332) donation and banned from entering Chile for three years.

The young pilot and influencer was accused of landing his plane without permission after providing officials with a false flight plan during his solo trip aimed at raising money for cancer research.

Of course, we do not agree with the legal process opened against him, but it has already been closed with a type of dismissal, his lawyer Jaime Barrientos Ramírez stated. Guo is expected to donate his penalty to childhood cancer research within 30 days and must leave the country as soon as possible.

Ethan Guo began his ambitious journey at 19, aiming to become the youngest person to fly solo to every continent while raising $1 million for cancer research. Having already visited six continents, he flew from Punta Arenas to King George Island, which is home to various international research stations.

Guo was detained after landing on the island, and authorities stated that he had submitted a flight plan that only included flying over Punta Arenas. He faced charges for allegedly providing false information to ground control and unauthorized landing, but these were dropped last month.

His lawyer reports that Mr. Guo is doing “pretty well”, and he aspires to continue with his mission once he leaves the military base.
